Lifting While He Climbs: Luis "Rey" Mimila Is Giving Back While Thriving at Wells Fargo

Luis "Rey" Mimila is proof that when talented young adults are given access to skills training and opportunity, they can launch meaningful careers. When Rey set his sights on the tech industry, he was working in landscaping while going to school. Cost barriers made boot camps and other software development training programs out of reach for him at the time. Then he found Year Up United, and our tuition-free job training program gave him the technical and professional skills to pursue a new path. He completed our Software Career Pathway, and today, Rey is an Information Security Analyst at Wells Fargo, a Year Up United partner since 2009. In his role, Rey drives real business for Wells Fargo value by identifying opportunities for process improvements and presenting recommendations for resolving security administration problems.

But his story doesn’t stop there. Now with a thriving career, Rey is able to live out the Year Up United Alumni philosophy of "lifting while you climb." He gives back through service on our Alumni Board and by partnering with nonprofits in his community to provide back-to-school kits for children in need.
