Susan Murray
Susan is the Interim Chief Executive Officer of Year Up United, a national workforce development organization committed to expanding access to economic opportunity and mobility for all young adults while providing talent, business, and community solutions to reshape the world of work. With an annual operating budget of more than $170M, Year Up United is one of the largest and most effective workforce and education nonprofits in the nation. It has been recognized by Fast Company and The Monitor Group as one of the top 25 organizations using business excellence to engineer social change. Year Up, now known as Year Up United, has also been recognized consistently as one of the nation's top 50 non-profits to work for by the Non-Profit Times.
Susan has been a member of the Year Up United leadership team for nearly 15 years and has applied deep executive leadership skills to help the organization successfully navigate double-digit growth in students served. She most recently served as Chief Revenue Officer, where she led Year Up United’s development, corporate engagement, and revenue teams. In that role, she created and executed a strategy to fund Year Up United’s operations, growth, and innovation while working closely with employers and philanthropic investors. Since joining the organization in 2011, she has led initiatives raising more than $1 billion in philanthropy, and in partnership with 1,000 employers, has connected tens of thousands of young adults to quality jobs.
Prior to Year Up United, Susan raised capital for the University of Pennsylvania, served as a Director of the Columbia University College Fund, and was part of the NYC2012 team that led New York City’s bid to host the 2012 Olympics.
Susan serves as a board member at YUPRO Placement, a public benefit corporation owned by Year Up United that supports skills-based job placement and career advancement of those facing barriers to socioeconomic mobility due to lack of access to resources, opportunity, and experience. She is a co-founder and board member of the Brooklyn Crescents Lacrosse Club and is a board member at BRIC, an arts and media institution in Brooklyn.
Susan earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Rochester and her MPA from Columbia University.
