Greg Walton (Vice Chair)

Greg was born in Raleigh, North Carolina but is a native of Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Year Up Boston in January of 2007 and has stayed committed to Year Up’s mission to close the Opportunity Divide. He’s the husband of Alicia Walton and father of two children Greg Jr. & daughter Gia Jalise. For over the last decade plus, Greg has worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and currently is an IT Support Engineer. In this role, Greg provides computer support to a plethora of departments across MIT.

In 2010, Greg was the first alum elected to Year Up’s National Board. During his time on the board, he has served on a variety of committees and recently has served as the Chair of the Human Capital Committee. Greg co-founded the Year Up National Alumni Summit and has mentored many alumni nationally. In 2017, Greg was awarded an MIT Excellence Award which is the highest honor that can be received as a staff person at MIT. He’s also the first person to be inducted in to both the Year Up & Year Up Alumni Hall of Fame. 

Greg is passionate about giving back and is a motivational speaker to young people everywhere on the importance of giving back and staying dedicated to being the best you can be for yourself, your family, and your community.
