Even with an A+ certification in Information Technology, Justin Lazaro didn’t get a single follow-up call when he applied to more than a dozen entry-level tech jobs in the Bay Area. His confidence shaken and his hope fading fast, he applied to Year Up.

Justin, a quiet sort of person, struggled initially with things like asking questions and giving and receiving feedback in the program. His desire to take ownership of his career path, however, motivated him to be as proactive as he could be. His hard work earned him an internship at Mozilla, where he pushed himself to learn systems administration on top of his duties as a desktop support intern. Before his internship ended, Mozilla offered him a job. Today, his title is “Desktop Jedi,” and in addition to working full-time, he is completing his degree in IT.
