On Thursday, January 16th, Year Up host-ed over 45 community partners and HCCC faculty and staff at their Welcome Reception in partnership with HCCC’s Office of Enrollment Services to celebrate the launch of Year Up New Jersey (YUNJ). At this event, YUNJ recognized Ms. Vivian Brady-Phillips for her visionary role in bringing Year Up to New Jersey and connecting the organization with HCCC. Ms. Brady-Phillips currently serves as the Executive Director of the Jersey City Housing Authority (JCHA). Prior to joining JCHA, Ms. Brady-Phillips served as a Deputy Mayor of Jersey City. While in this role in 2017, Ms. Brady-Phillips met with Year Up staff members—Ryan Overton, Director of Recruitment & Admissions, and Ty Nguyen, an Account Director on Year Up’s Corporate Engagement team, along with Newell Chavis, Director of Client Development for Risk Strategies Company who serves as a mentor and volunteer on Year Up’s Leadership Council—and helped plant the seed for what is now a flourishing partnership between Year Up, HCCC, and JCHA. In addition, Year Up’s Recruitment Manager for New Jersey, Michael Strom, served a nine-month LEE public policy fellowship at the Jersey City Housing Authority before joining the Year Up team.

and continue to connect YUNJ to local community leaders. Additionally, JCHA teamed up with YUNJ to send mailers directly to all young adults in eligible ages at all public housing and housing choice voucher program sites. Since October 2019, YUNJ has hosted various training on the topic of “professionalism in the digital age” to support young professionals in the community.

Year Up is proud of this growing partnership with HCCC and JCHA and welcome other community organizations to join its efforts. Year Up is committed to serving more young adults in the great state of New Jersey but this work cannot be done alone!
