Kim Williams

Executive Director at Year Up Greater Atlanta

Kim Williams joined Year Up in April 2015, as the Executive Director of the Year Up Atlanta organization. Year Up’s mission is to empower young adults ages 18-24 to go from poverty to professional careers in a single year. Atlanta serves 250 young adults a year with a successful track record of over 90% positive outcomes.

Kim has over 20 years as a proven business leader.  She provides leadership for Year Up Atlanta to deliver relentless focus on staff development, passion and rigor to increase our student reach and retention, build a sustainable donor base, expand our corporate partnerships and deliver excellence in all we do.
Prior, Kim was Chief Operating Officer at iCorps Technologies of Boston MA. She was responsible for ensuring operational excellence across all aspects of the company as it grew. The company delivered exceptional double digit growth, superb customer satisfaction with relentless focus on excellence in 2014 as a result of Kim’s leadership and partnership with the iCorps executive team.

Prior to that role, she spent seventeen years at Microsoft Corporation in multiple senior leadership roles including 10 years as General Manager in multiple segments. She is best known for building great teams and bringing her unrelentingly positive spirit and passion to driving exceptional sales leadership and business growth while coaching and mentoring so many people to success.  Kim’s legacy without a doubt will include her incredible focus on people.
Kim brings over 30 years of sales and business leadership to guide her teams to success. Kim led her team to the company’s top sales team award in 2008, the Circle of Excellence.  In addition to her record of sales excellence, Kim is a leader with a passion for people, development and diversity.  A graduate of Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) Executive Academy Leadership Program, she carries out that commitment as a career coach and mentor within the Microsoft Community.  Kim is an active board member and past marketing chairperson for ITSMF and serves as the executive sponsor for the SMB diversity efforts. Prior to joining Microsoft in 1996, she worked with Digital Equipment Corporation for 13 years in numerous sales positions.

Kim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Maryland. She is currently based in Atlanta, GA.  There you will frequently find her playing golf or spending time with family.

Jelissa Lee

Service Desk Engineer, Team Lead at iVision Inc. (Year Up Atlanta Alumnus 2011)

Jelissa Lee is originally from Milwaukee, WI.  She graduated from Year Up Atlanta class 4, July 2011. Upon graduation she gained full time employment as Operations Service Center Team Lead with her internship QTS, where she spent 4 years.

Jelissa is currently employed in the IT field as a Service Desk Engineer Team Lead at iVision Inc. Jelissa is actively pursuing a career in IT management and engineering. She continues to pursue her passion of motivating and speaking with several non-profits to bring awareness, opportunity, and motivation to young women in the technology industry.

She attended and graduated from Georgia Military College with an Associates of Science degree in Information Technology.  She is currently enrolled at Georgia State University as a JR, completing her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems in Business.

In her spare time she enjoys playing basketball, motivational speaking, video games, and spending time with family.

Alecia Maclin joined AT&T/Bellsouth in 1999 and has held various roles in Network Operations, Engineering and Technology Development. Her most recent role is a Director for Service Realization which helps ensure end to end processes are designed and tested to deliver an effortless customer experience and are operationally ready for launch.

Alecia completed her MBA at Mercer University and also holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University. Alecia is originally from Kansas City, Missouri, but currently lives in Tucker, Georgia with her two sons, ages 17 and 13. In her spare time, Alecia enjoys playing tennis, visiting amusement parks and traveling with her family.

Alex Avendano

Founder and CEO at Decycive

Alex is the founder and CEO of Decycive, a technology consulting firm focused on enterprise systems like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Content Management Systems (CMS), and other Marketing Tech. Additionally, Alex is the founder and/or co-founder of a number of active product startups ranging from small marketing applications to a patentable combustion engine technology. Across these initiatives, Alex works on global projects for brands such as Home Depot, Kolter Homes, Coke Zero, Chick-Fil-A,, Orange/Re-Think, NPR, ICF International, FTI Consulting, and more.


Alex led a digital products group, Grey Seven (G7) Labs, within a larger software development agency, Arke Systems. Within the Arke Systems umbrella Alex also operated as Director of Strategy, working with clients to design and execute marketing technology systems with a focus on CRM and CMS. Customers included Coke, Home Depot, Spanx, Budget Rent-A-Car, Atlanta Braves, Toto, and more. During Alex’s time, Arke grew at an average annual rate of 200%.

Earlier roles included acting as a founding member and Director of Partner Engagement at the Stuzo Group, a leading Facebook application development company for Fortune 500 brands. At Stuzo, Alex worked to expand and lead the strategic partnerships of the company, focusing on sales and business development. Growth was exponential during Alex’s time, scaling by over 800% in a single year, and as a result Stuzo was soon acquired by the Dachis Group (2010).

Venturing into the entrepreneurial world at an early age, Alex opened Panosis, an enterprise similar to Geek Squad ™ today, while still in high school. During college, Alex developed Solid Foundation LLC, a consulting firm focused on helping entrepreneurs develop business plans and marketing strategies as well as building Henry A. Davidsen LLC, a custom clothing and image consulting firm.

In his free time, Alex is a Mentor and on the Leadership Council for Year Up (Atlanta Chapter), a national non-profit that supports urban youth by providing technology job training and skills development.

Alex graduated from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania with concentrations in Management and Entrepreneurship, where he was a 3-year member of the Wharton Venture Initiation Program.

Amena Mitchell

Barbara Alexander

Barbara enjoys the practice of law so thoroughly that she is licensed in three states (so far): California (2002), Georgia (2010) and Nevada (2001). Her passion for intellectual property dates back to the mid-90s when she returned from living in Dublin, Ireland to work for a Boston-based venture capital firm, investing in life sciences and technology companies. Attending law school in Washington, D.C. at Washington College of Law, American University from 1998-2001, Barbara’s legal training focused on federal law – of which trademark, copyright, and patent are a significant part.

Since 2001, Barbara has practiced in the private, government, and non-profit sectors, always with the goal of improving the communities in which she lived. In January 2014, she opened her own intellectual property boutique firm, Alexander Legal LLC, located in Atlanta, GA. The firm’s clients vary in size from start-up to publicly traded company in a variety of industries.

In addition to currently serving as Co-Chair of the Leadership Council for Year Up Atlanta, Barbara serves as Vice President of the Leadership Committee for the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers.

Brandon Casteel is the Area Vice President of Sales for CareerBuilder. Brandon oversees a $50+ million overall team of sales managers and sales executives for CareerBuilder and has overall responsibility for all large enterprise clients and prospects in the Southeast U.S. He is based in the Atlanta, GA sales office for CareerBuilder. Prior to this, Brandon held the Sales Director (2009-2014) and Area Sales Manager (2008-2009) leadership positions in Atlanta with CareerBuilder as well.   Brandon started with CareerBuilder in August 2006 as a Major Account Executive based out of the Dallas, TX Enterprise Sales Office. Evette H. Jones is an Assistant Vice President with responsibility for the Atlanta Fed’s cash operations and oversight of personnel matter for the Operations and Administrative Services Division.

Ms. Jones joined the New Orleans Branch in December, 1987. She has held various management positions during her tenure with the bank. Prior to her promotion to Assistant Vice President in February 2000, she served as Financial Services Director with responsibility for the Cash Services and Community Services departments. From 2000 to 2006, she served as Assistant Vice President with responsibility for the New Orleans Branch Payment Services Check Operations. She joined the Atlanta office in 2005 in Check operations and assumed her current position in April 2007. From January 2013 through March of 2014 she served as interim Branch Manager for the New Orleans branch while retaining her Atlanta responsibilities. Ms. Jones has served on several nonprofit boards in both New Orleans and Atlanta. Her passion is mentoring and leadership and talent development. In August of 2014, she became a Certified Professional Coach.

Ms. Jones is a Magna Cum laude graduate of Xavier University in New Orleans, with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minor in English. She completed the Executive development program at Pennsylvania State University in June 1997. Ms. Jones is married to Melvin Jones. They have two daughters, Candis and Destiny.

Prior to joining NOW, Archie served as an officer of Kenexa Corporation (NASDAQ: KNXA) and its Vice President of Business Development since 2005. His efforts facilitated Kenexa’s industry-leading growth through over twenty M&A and partnership transactions in seven countries. In December of 2012, Kenexa was sold to IBM.

Prior to joining Kenexa, Archie spent his career in private equity. His private equity experience began with Merrill Lynch Capital/ Stonington Partners as a financial analyst and then as a founding member and Principal of Parthenon Capital in Boston. Archie served on the Board of Franco Apparel Corp. and served as its interim CFO. Archie also served on the Board of Kenexa Corporation of Wayne, PA helping chart its path to IPO.

Archie currently serves on the Board of AIT Worldwide Logistics, Inc., Year Up Atlanta, and the Taly Foundation.

He holds a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University and is a magna cum laude graduate of Morehouse College with a major in Accounting.

Robert “Bruce” Clayton was born and raised in Sylva, North Carolina. He majored in Accounting at Western Carolina University in 1971. Served two years in the U.S.  Army including 15 months in Vietnam. He worked at Sears for 25 years holding important positions which included Internal Auditor, Audit Manager, Asst. Territory Payroll Manager, Territory Payroll Manger, National Payroll Manager, National Manager HR Administration/Payroll, National Manager of HR Administration and Benefits. Later he joined Genuine Parts Company (1996-2014) as Director of HR Administration, VP Administration and Risk Management, Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Genuine Parts Company is a fortune 225 Company with operations in U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and China and has around 37,000 employees.

Robert “Bruce” Clyton has served on the boards of:  Center for Family Resources, Cobb Community Foundation, Junior Achievement, Year Up, YWCA(Domestic Violence). He has also served on many nonprofit Capital Campaign Fund Raising committees and has mentored young professionals and young people.

Edwin Marcial

As Chief Technology Officer, Edwin Marcial led the technology success of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) as it grew from a 6 person start-up to a $22 billion dollar market capitalization within 15 years. It was his technical vision and design of an Internet based commodity trading system that would evolve to become the ICE trading platform.  In 2005, ICE had one of the largest IPOs in Georgia history, and in 2013, ICE purchased the New York Stock Exchange to become the second largest operator of financial markets in the world. Mr. Marcial’s greatest achievement however is the creation of arguably one of the most talented and effective technology teams in the country. This team of over 350 developers and technologists designed and built every mission critical systemused to operate ICE markets, exchanges and clearing houses. The technology team has consistently innovatedand executed to facilitate the rapid growth of ICE. Today the ICE trading and clearing platforms are consideredamong the best in the financial markets industry.  Mr. Marcial earned a BS degree in Computer Science from the College of Engineering at the University of Florida.

Jackie Breiter

Jackie Breiter drives the strategic direction and management for all aspects of technology relating to teaching, faculty research, students, and administration for the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.  She is a recognized leader that combines technological knowledge with strong strategy and communication skills. She is a member of several organizations including Year Up Atlanta Board Member and Women in Technology (WIT) Board Secretary.  In2012, Jackie was awarded WIT’s Women of the Year for small business; in 2013 she was a finalist for GCLA CIO of the Year for non-profit/public sector; and in 2014 received the Public Sector Impact Award from ATP.

Since 2004, Larry Panatera has been the Vice President and Business Information Officer for Kaiser-Permanente in Georgia. For 65 years, Kaiser Permanente has existed to provide high-quality, affordable health care services to improve the health of its members and the communities it serves.

Larry is responsible for Kaiser Georgia’s electronic medical record, which is the largest in the southeastern U.S. His leadership of health care systems allows Kaiser Permanente physicians to focus on delivering evidenced-based medicine and improving the wellness of all Kaiser members.

He joined Kaiser Permanente in 2004 after being the CEO and President of his own technology company in Atlanta. He has over 25 years of experience in information technology. Prior to owning and operating his own company, Larry was VP-CIO at Bellsouth and VP-CIO at Snap-on Tools, Inc. He has worked for companies such as Pepsi, Marriott, and AT&T.

As someone who believes in giving back to the community in which he lives, Larry currently is serving on the advisory boards for Keep Cobb Beautiful and Families First.

Lee Crump, Chair

Lee W. Crump is the CIO and Group Vice President of Business Support for Rollins, Inc. Rollins, based in Atlanta, has annual revenues of over $1.5 billion and is the parent company of Orkin Pest Control, and other well-known pest control companies. Prior to joining Rollins in 2009 Crump spent ten years as the CIO of the largest and most profitable ServiceMaster subsidiary based in Memphis, TN.  In 2012 Crump was named Georgia CIO of the Year (Global Division) by the GeorgiaCIO Association.
In his current capacity, he manages a team of 150 professionals and is responsible for all Information Technology (IT) and Program Management (PMO).
Mr. Crump holds the PMP credential from the Project Management Institute and has a long track record of successfully delivering major systems implementations. He served as the Six Sigma Executive Deployment Champion in his previous role with ServiceMaster. He has spent over 35 years in IT, equally divided between IT Executive Management and Business Consulting.

Mr. Crump serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Year-Up Atlanta and CFY, Inc. He serves on the Advisory Boards of the GeorgiaCIO Association where he is Chair of Programs, and the Association of Telecommunications Professionals (ATP). He is a past Board Member of Georgia Junior Achievement and CHRIS Kids. He is a volunteer and mentor for Pathbuilders Achieva, as well as Year-Up Atlanta, where in 2013he received the Year-Up Urban Empowerment Award.

Michael Kay

Retired President & CEO LSG Sky Chefs at The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta

Mr. Kay is the retired President and Chief Executive Officer of LSG Sky Chefs, the largest worldwide provider of integrated in-flight airline solutions including catering, procurement, and equipment, serving 270 airlines in48 countries with 362 million airline meals annually. He also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Portman Hotel Company, as President and Chief Executive Officer for Omni International Hotels Ltd., and as Senior Vice President of Operations for Americana Hotels, Inc.

Mr. Kay graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel administration. He is currently a member of the Cornell University Council, as well as a director for Radiant Systems and a board member of The Points of Light Foundation. In the Atlanta community, he is an officer and director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, a board member of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, and an advisory board member of Carter, a full service real estate company. Mr. Kay has also served as an executive in residence for the College of Business Administration at Georgia State University.

Mr. Kay served as Board Chair for The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. With more than $800million in assets, The Community Foundation connects donors, nonprofits and community partners to make philanthropy happen. Mr. Kay is married and the father of four children and grandfather of five. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Ann.
